When I think of the holidays I think of all the beautiful decorations. Then I think of those decorations turning evil, coming to life, and wreaking havoc on my family and my home. Ah, or should I say "AAAHHH!" the true meaning of the holidays.
One man who shares my twisted idea of the holidays is Tim Burton who features some great holiday decor in his film The Nightmare Before Christmas. The movie seamlessly combines skulls and Santa, creepy crawlers and candy canes, predators and presents, I could go on. So in reviewing the characters of the film I decided to create a Man-Eating Wreath inspired by the film's character of the same description.
When I went online to see if there were instructions on creating such a wreath there were a TON of how-to's. However all of them depicted the wreath as a yellow-eyed, pine needle wreath with sharp teeth. While as scary as they are I wanted to make one closer to the claymation character which had white eyes, no teeth, and was a holly wreath rather than made from pine needles.
So I was just winging it at this point. I bought what I thought I might need for the craft and got started.
Right away I realized why most people used pine wreaths. They are more accessible, premade, and very inexpensive. I purchased a wire wreath frame and holly garland praying it would be enough to cover the entire wreath. But I did some digging (mostly on amazon.com) and found inexpensive ivy and holly garland that I could use - score!

Another lesson learned - was to make sure that the eyes I painted were completely dry before placing on the wreath. The glue did not stick to the wet paint and then paint got on some of the leaves which I then had to cut off.

So is this article actually a holiday decor #fail?
No way! I was able to create the man-eating wreath successfully and he is a great addition to my holiday decorations - If you like eyes following you around your house all the time!
The point of this entry is that your idea can come to life (metaphorically speaking we hope!) and there are a ton of resources that can help support you in any skill you will need to achieve your vision. So give it a try. Disclaimer: Keep it safe and smart . Not sure what you WILL be trying so I thought I would add that in there.
If you want to learn more about how I did it I created a downloadable tutorial for free if you subscribe to my email alerts! Form on my homepage about half way down the page. (Next project for me is to make subscribing easier!).
Here is the final product.

Happy Holidays!
Kinda cute scary!
That is amazing!
